Jamaat leader ran over by bus in flee attempt

A Jamaat-e-Islami leader was run over by a bus in Pallabi area of the capital this morning while he was trying to escape arrest during a demonstration against the death penalty of party chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.

A Chittagong court on Thursday awarded death penalty to 14 people including Nizami in a 10-truck arms haul case.

Belal Hossain, 45, Jamaat ameer of Darussalam thana unit, had a skull fracture, reports our correspondent from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where his body was taken for autopsy.

The law enforcers picked up a man suspecting him a Jamaat activist from the spot.
